How photovoltaics could be the key to relieving Earth's overload

As technology advances and costs fall, renewable energy has become competitive with fossil fuels. Renewable energy will not only restore the planet's clean waters and green mountains, it will also provide people with a future in which they can reap the rewards.

The Earth is constantly overloaded

Earth overshoot day means that the earth enters the "ecological deficit" state in a year. When this day comes every year, it means that human beings have used up the earth resource quota in advance.  According to statistics, July 29, 2019 has already consumed all the natural resources allocated to the Earth in 2019, making the "Earth Ecological Overload Day" in 2019 the earliest in history. In this regard, scientists believe that human beings have embarked on a overconsumption of the earth "road of no return"... The premature onset of "ecological overload" means that humanity has overspent its budget and overdrawn its future. Just your credit card, if you keep maxing out, you'll end up paying higher interest. For the earth is far from so simple, this interest cost may lead to environmental damage, even ecological destruction...

How to alleviate "ecological overload" 

The increase of carbon emissions is one of the important factors leading to "earth ecological overload". The Earth's carbon footprint must fall to zero by the second half of this century to reverse the severity of ecological overloading. Individual countries are already offsetting their environmental impact with solar and wind power. Since 2017, 97% of Costa Rica's electricity has come from renewable sources, while countries such as the UK, Germany and Portugal have also set records in the clean energy sector. Mathis, president of the Global Footprint Network, called on governments to focus on ecological overload as well as economic growth. He expects China and the United States, the world's two biggest energy consumers, to pay attention. Mathis believes that if the world can reduce emissions by 30% from today's levels, there is still room for recovery.

Energy transition 'starts with PV'

The development of renewable energy is the only way of energy transformation, and photovoltaic is one of the most important forces. China is by far the world's largest producer of photovoltaics, and remains the world's largest in both scale and technology. Photovoltaic has entered the era of kilowatt-hour electricity, "photovoltaic + energy storage" is expected to become large-scale economic in 3-5 years. In the face of the climate crisis, Longi Shares and other companies are among the first to join the RE100, pledging to use renewable energy electricity by 2028 at the latest. The development of photovoltaic industry will greatly change the proportion of fossil energy and clean energy consumption, vigorously promote the strategic process of energy transformation, give a breathing space to the increasingly fragile ecological environment, and let the earth reproduce the scene of "clear water and green mountains against the blue sky".
